One of the things that I feel needs to be addressed is that: Some regulations restrict the sale of some fresh raw farm products. For example, currently regulations are being considered that make it even more difficult to sell goats milk in the stat…

Farmer vs. grower When I first began growing my own food, I didn’t consider myself anything. This was my chicken house and that was my garden, and those were my pigs, and they were all in my yard. Soon enough my friends started to refer to my place…

A couple of things I've been pondering. Are growers and farmers the same? In my mind, a farmer is larger scale than a grower. Do all the producers here view themselves as farmers? I guess I think growers is a better word for the name of the organiza…

Organization Framework/Web Site Draft 1 Reply

I'm attaching the draft "framework" for the organization that I agreed to work on at our last meeting.  I wrote it up as a potential web site design, because that's how it was making sense in my brai…

Here's an interesting article on the concept of community-supported fisheries:

"Community-supported fisheries programs (CSFs) sell catch shares to customers, entitling them to weekly or bi-weekly deliveries of a wide variety of locally caught fish and shellfish. The concept is modeled after "buy local" agriculture programs that have popped up all over the country. CSFs are already active throughout New… Continue

High Tunnels Questions and Answers Link

There was an email going around which had some misleading information about the new NRCS practice "Seasonal High Tunnels". The practice is actually an incentive payment not a grant. It can be obtained by singning up for the Environmental Quality Incentive Program or the "Organic Intiative" . I have posted the link to which many of your questions will be answered and additional information is available. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to contact me or Joanne Kuykendall. (90… Continue

Jan. 20 meeting

I was at the old University School site during the conference call and saw how conference calling is one great way of gathering thoughts and sharing ideas from all members without the travel expense. With the miles between members and limited personal time, there can be a great group community brought to life out of the work and determination I saw today!
